Whalley Abbey is a former Cistercian Abbey, after the dissolution of the monasteries the abbey was largely demolished and a country house was built on the site. It was modified in the 20th century and is now the Retreat and Conference House which together with the Abbey ruins, are now owned by the Diocese of Blackburn who undertook extensive internal modernisation of the house in 2005. It has 4 star accomodation and large grounds to enjoy.
